Maxim Gorky

World famous Russian writer Maxim Gorky was a political activist and the founder of socialist realism. His real name was Alexei Maximovich Peshkov. Before gaining success as a writer, he changed jobs frequently, experience of which later inspired his writings. He was in close association with other two great writers of the time Anton Chekhov and Leo Tolstoy, both Russian. He was active with the emerging Marxist social-democratic movement and publicly opposed the Tsarist regime.
